Your Child's First Dentist Experience

Ensure your child's first dental visit is a good experience! A child should come to the dentist around their first birthday or 6 months after their first tooth appears. There will be a couple of forms to fill out prior to the appointment. The first visit will be short, and your child can even pick a show to watch, or bring their own while the dentist examines their mouth. The television is located directly above the dental chair so they can lay back and focus on the movie.

Having a parent nearby is encouraged, especially for the little ones who would feel uneasy without their parent in the room. Bring an older sibling or relative who can show your child how it's done! We want to make sure your child has a positive experience, so their first visit will include a ride in the chair, and counting of their teeth (checking for decay). We want your child leaving with a smile on their face, and coming back with a good attitude for their next appointment.

Feel free to address us with any comments, questions, or concerns at any time.
We look forward to meeting you!

Preventive Care for Your Child's Teeth

Preventative care for your child can keep cavities away! Oral health is important for your child's overall health.

Encourage your child to maintain proper dental hygiene by helping them form morning and evening routines. Your child should brush their teeth twice daily to remove plaque, bacteria, and food from their mouth.

You can assist your child to floss around the age of four and make it a part of their daily routine. This is an important part in keeping your child's gums healthy. Decreasing the amount of sugar intake your child has is also beneficial in maintaining good oral health, and preventing cavities.

Dental sealants are also a good idea, especially for molars. This coat will seal off grooves and prevent cavities in your child's teeth. Make sure your child has regular check ups with the dentist, around every six months is enough. It is important for your child to see a dentist regularly. Regular check ups will promote strong oral health, and catch a cavity early if one occurs.

Dental Fillings for Children

Woodbridge Kids Dental offers options for your child's fillings. A filling will make sure your child's tooth functions properly and stays healthy.

By restoring the tooth, a filling prevents further decay. When the dentist fixes a cavity, they will remove the decay, give the area a deep clean, and fill.

Depending on the type of decay, or where the cavity is in your mouth, there are different types of materials that may be used. Woodbridge Kids Dental offers composite fillings which are white plastic, silver fillings, stainless steel crowns, and more. Depending on the issue, the dentist will make the best recommendation and method for your child's cavity.

After your child has gotten their cavity fill they can eat and drink as normal, and brush and floss. They may experience some sensitivity to cold. The dentist will give you further instruction on post filling treatment.

Pediatrics Dental Care

Pediatrics Care Asleep is available at Woodbridge Kids Dentistry. If your child suffers from fear and stress when it comes to the dentist, allow us to help. Your child's comfort and well being is our number one concern.

Care Asleep puts your child to sleep using General Anaesthesia. The procedure is safe, and performed by our accredited staff consisting of a specialized Pediatrics Dentist, Medical Anaesthetist, Nurses, and Chairside Dental Assistants. This procedure allows your child to have all of their needed treatment done in one appointment, rather than it being completed over a series of dental appointments.

We recommend Care Asleep for children who need large scale treatments done that would need multiple appointments, and for children who have severe anxiety or fear regarding dental appointments. By having your child's treatment done under General Anaesthesia there will be a large decrease in stress for both you and your child.
